The Forgotten Background of the Guitar
Have you ever wondered how your treasured guitar started out? Truth to be told, when the guitar was first invented, it didn't really look like the kind of guitar that we know today. The guitar's ancestry runs back so far, reaching the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia. The very first guitar that was invented actually comes from Iraq, about the span of two millennia after which it reappears again. Back then, it was still known as Mesopotamia. In the vicinity of an excavation area, archaeologists discovered some caves with drawings of humans with what appeared to be string like instruments resembling a guitar. There was yet again another discovery of a stringed instrument like the modern-day guitar located in a tomb after the Roman expansion a few millennia later. The dark ages also show that their version of the guitar was pretty popular too. During those times, there were two prominent designs that were most common, which had either a French or a German influence. One of the designs were rounder, with a stout neck for the frets and a sound hole.In contrast to the first design, the second was more angular in appearance. In certain English church ruins and tombs, a few of these instruments were discovered inside. It is assumed that these were the influence brought upon by the Moors in the early 8th century when they came to Europe. The area of Spain was one of the first places the Moors invaded, it is only right that Spain became the center of activity regarding the evolution of the guitar. The first kind of guitar that ever gained popularity was the Vihuela that initially had twelve frets. People then began making tabs so everyone and anyone could play it without any difficulty. During the resistance, everyone chose to play the guitar. If you look at it closely, these past actions reflect largely to how the guitar is projected in present times. The guitar became even more popular in the 17th and 18th century, this was mainly because of Louis XIV. It became a novelty among the European elite to master the art of guitar playing. A hundred years later, the guitar has finally morphed into the guitar we see today. This became so popular that it spread to America, followed of course by everyone else. We have finally reached modern times, where everyone started to acknowledge the guitar. Freedom of expression through music became the biggest thing. Everything about the guitar became popular, there were concerts and gigs showcasing the talents of skilled guitarists, many songs were played using a guitar. As more and more people wanted to hear the guitar in songs, musicians wanted more from the guitar - they wanted it louder and stronger. It was because of it that guitar manufacturers developed the electric guitar. Whatever the music genre, the guitar is always the top choice for anyone in the music industry. Whatever country or culture, a precious bond has been shared by guitars and their players throughout time.
