Have you ever sat outside to enjoy a warm summer day or evening concert. You can probably remember the experience as if it were yesterday. Many festivals around the world offer an opportunity for you to enjoy this experience along with great food and fun activities for all members of the family. One other highlight to certain festivals like (jazz and blues) is the wide array of talented musicians all in one place. It is often a memorable experience and the highlight of a year for many festival patrons. Attending events like these is never short of amazing music and stunning backdrops. Take the picturesque mountain views of the Rocky Mountains (Telluride Brews and Blues Festival) for example. Located in Colorado, this festival is a favorite among blues fans everywhere. There are also other examples including relaxed riverside ambiance of the Safeway Blues Festival in Portland, Oregon or a bustling city environment like Chicago Jazz Festival. One thing is for sure, there is always a perfect festival for everyone.
More and more people are talking about having a hobby to occupy their time in a family environment. While I have been to many other genres of festivals, most of those are often not family friendly. A reggae festival for example could possibly have some influences that aren't acceptable to most parents. But more than most other options out there today, Jazz and Blues Festivals provides a relaxing setting and it often helps many people unwind from their typical chaotic day to day routines.
Some of the more popular performers at some of the blues festivals this year are BB King, Dianne Reeves, Liz Wright, Angelique Kidjo, Vijay Iyer, Dave Holland, Amina Figarova, Ivan Lins, Tedeschi Trucks Band, BB & The Blues Shacks, Walter Trout, John Fogerty, The Avett Brothers, Robert Cray, Irma Thomas, and many many more.
As I was browsing through Google News recently, I noticed a trend that seems to be unique for 2011: there are more festivals catching on worldwide. Several countries are beginning to explore the idea of having their first festivals and others are spending time developing more or sprucing up their existing festivals. This increased demand for these types of events likely stems from the major success that the existing ones experienced over the past few year (including increasing attendance). Another trend that is ring this year is the line-up by pop bands to attract a younger audience.
No matter how you look at the trends, this year should have a ton of festivals full of emerging and established jazz and blues artists. It will undoubtedly be a memorable year for jazz and blues festivals.
