A Way To Develop Into An Fantastic Guitar Player

The following are just a few tips that just could take your playing in a more productive direction.

First and foremost you've got to absolutely have faith in in yourself and begin to imagine yourself performing at the level you honestly wish to achieve, immerse yourself in discovering new abilities, progress your song writing, theory and improvising  expertise whenever possible. You have to believe in yourself absolutely, when you do not then you have less likelihood of succcess.

You might want to make the effort to picture yourself playing at the peak of your desired ability level and getting the acknowledgement and appreciation you realize you deserve for all the {time and effort} you have put in over the years. You can bet that having a good image of yourself and constructive view of the future are both contributory to becoming a hit in any field.

So is envisaging yourself performing really well having applied all the vital work and effort.

You've Got To believe in yourself and that you will rehearse, you will play with a lot of other players, you will learn plenty of brand new skills and that will get there as you are just never going to quit. Remain resolute and focused and it will be so.

Carry on getting to know new scales and methods and never give up practising.~Under no circumstances reject on any chance to gain knowledge of relevant new methods and skills, go on practising.~Practise religiously and regularly with vigour. ~Always remember that all the great musicians have had to get through this stage.

Practice and love it . When you are practising you must give it your full  attention, you need to notice which parts of any given song or piece are easy and which parts are the most demanding. The hard bits are the ones you most need to  focus on and get right once and for all.

You need to carefully play the tricky part over and over at the slowest speed you can endure and concentrate on getting it down before gradually speeding it up, metronomes are useful in these instances, then you will be able to play it up to speed and then go on to the next challenging part that needs practice.
At any opportunity always accept the chance to play with other people, regardless of their skill level compared to yours. Naturally when you are in the company of more experienced musicians, glean what you can from their knowledge and experience.

You teach best what you most need to learn, so try to always be approachable for other players at a lower level of skill to learn from.

It's always good to play with musicians who play other instruments too, it will help you develop a better ear for musical tones and scales and appreciate the expressive and unique qualities of the instrument you play.

Find yourself a really good guitar tutor. If you are able, try to use a guitar tutor that is close to you (ie. if you live in Stoke, find a tutor who offers guitar lessons in Stoke - it will save you travel costs).

This will help you enormously to reach your goals, discuss goals with your tutor and set specific targets to achieve. Recording yourself regularly either (on a computer or tape, it doesn’t matter) and keep those recordings to compare in the future to gauge if you have and how much your playing has improved, this can be a real motivator! Your soloing and rhythm guitar playing will be more fun and better practice if you start to use professionally recorded backing tracks. It will help you develop a better sense of timing and precision and your practising will be more entertaining…You will be forced to finish the song instead of just playing part of it. You need to focus specifically on the type of playing you want to be really good at and prioritise your learning and practising in that direction. You have to specialise in your own particular niche or style in order to get really good at it, nobody has enough time in their lives to be excellent at every style so you have to be aware of this and strive to be efficient. SPECIALIZE!

There will always be people who will disagree with this philosophy but it makes sense to focus and specialise, prioritise with your attention set on the goal...Let the idiots and naysayers generalize while you specialise and achieve EXCELLENCE in your chosen field. Don’t ever fall into the rut of thinking you are not a natural musician. There is no such thing. There are always certain people that seem to be better at certain subjects than other people but they still have to apply themselves just as much as us mere mortals do at everything else. Nobody ever had all the skills necessary to be  a great player from the getgo, we all have to work at it and be persistent.

In Summary :

* Get yourself a really good guitar tutor,
* discuss and set goals..
* Specialise
* Make practising the cornerstone of your working day
* Backing trax rule!
* Don't be a hermit! Play with other people at every opportunity
* Learn and teach
* Never fall into the rut of thinking you will never make it. Think positively at all times
* Picture yourself becoming the player you always wanted to be and it will likely be so
* failure is not an option!
