Beginner Golf Club Sets (Playability)

When it comes to buying beginner golf clubs, many factors should run through your mind. The top factors are playability, status and cool factor, and price/resale value. These factors apply to all club makers whether they are (Adams, Callaway, Mizuno, Cleveland, Nike, Cobra, Titleist, Taylormade, secondary brand names or clones). They also apply to all types of clubs (drivers, putters, wedges, woods, hybrids and irons). This article focuses on playability.

If golf clubs can help beginner golfer or high handicapper avoid some of the common swing mistakes and escape from trouble, then they are playable beginner clubs. So, first you need to know the common swing mistakes and trouble situations of beginners. Then you need to know the clubs that address these problems.

One problem that beginner and high handicap golfers have is an inability to strike the golf ball with the middle of the clubface. When you have off center contact the ball will veer to the left or the right of the intended target. Additionally, there is a decrease in the transfer of energy to the ball resulting in shorter shots.

Another problem beginner golfers and high handicappers have is an inability to swing the golf club in balance at high swing speeds. Lower swing speeds have a hard time getting the golf ball into airborne. Additionally, attempting to increase your swing speed at the sacrifice of balance can lead to all kinds of swing faults.

Beginners and high handicappers also find themselves needing to escape from high rough and fairway bunkers. These situations require a golfer to make solid contact with the golf ball without trapping grass or sand between the club and the ball. Otherwise, the ball will not advance far.

Finally, chipping around the greens can be a big problem as well. New and less skilled golfers tend to scald the ball across the green or chunk a shot leaving it well short of the intended target.

All of the above common swing mistakes and trouble situations take away from the enjoyment of the game. While golf clubs cannot make your current swing better, the right beginner golf clubs can make your current swing more effective. They do so by minimizing the bad shots that result from common swing faults.
