I am an audiophile and learning to play an instrument has always been a dream. I love watching live performances and being engulfed in the sound. I've been going to gigs since I was a young teenager and I even picked up the bass for a while. I can't say I got any good at it. It certainly helped my ear for rhythm and music though. I do need some more refining, definitely. I sometimes get up on the mic but I don't think you can call it singing at this point. I've been contemplating electric guitar lessons because the sound of a rockin' guitar makes me all goofy on the inside. I love whatever genre, from rock to blues to jazz to funk. The guitar layers are mesmerizing. I like classic rockers like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani a lot and then there's Mike Einziger from Incubus and an epic list of others but those guys are the highlights for me. So good!
I'll probably go and enroll myself in electric guitar lessons soon. I would love to pursue music as a career but I don't know if I'm brave enough yet. Of course I have to start with those electric guitar lessons first, get proficient and then think about considering it. I've tried teaching myself, too. There are lots of references online like music sheets and demos on YouTube. I learn much better with a teacher in front of me though. That's just the way I am. There are proficiency exams too from the likes of the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB), the Australian & New Zealand Cultural Arts (ANZCA), the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London (ABRSM), and the Trinity College in London. I hope to do well at those. Maybe just the ones in Australia and New Zealand. London's a bit of a dream. I'll start with those electric guitar lessons first, then I'll allow myself to dream bigger and bigger. There are great instructors in Melbourne, and Melbourne itself is just a very inspiring city for these kinds of things.
